Knitting and Stitching Show 2012

Knitting and Stitching Show, Harrogate

Yes, it's that time of year again; it does seem to have come round very quickly. As always, plenty to look at, admire and covet.

Knitted stories....................

Beautiful embroidery..............

Textile work evoking the North-East's mining past........(click to see the details better)

and tales of the Unfinishable, often very touching. These were contributed by Guild members throughout the country, and displayed in the most imaginative way; a glorious pavilion set up in the magnificent setting.of the
Royal Hall.

Inside the pavilion, a recorded soundtrack told the tales of the pieces, and written explanations were given, too.

As well as the temptation to buy lovely threads and fabrics, talk to designers, and generally indulge!

Shirley McKeand's Workshop

Three-Dimensional Crewelwork.

We had a really enthusiastic turnout for Shirley's workshop. These were the examples she brought to show us. Beautifully intricate, with clever little touches like the tiny caterpillar in the green example above.

After a flurry of choosing our background.......

Shirley demonstrated the first stages.

With lots of advice, good humour and encouragement from Shirley......

We began to see results.  Works in progress, they'll all be unique!

A lovely day of sewing and learning. Thank-you , Shirley!

Threlkeld in Stitches

Quilts and More........

Keswick Embroiderers joined with Cumbria Patchworkers, Threlkeld Knitters and others to present their exhibition in Threlkeld Village Hall recently.

It was busy over the three days, and visitors as well as local people came to admire the lovely work on show. A huge variety of skills and techniques  was represented, and and those who came really took time to appreciate the time involved in producing the exhibits.

Here is a taste of what was on show................... Click on the pictures for a better view.

A Chairman's Challenge.........

Keswick's Banner

Squares for the Linus quilt.

Cumbria Patchworkers' Christmas ideas.........

Just a sample! There were many more quilts hanging,  and others which were 'turned' during the three days.

Congratulations to those who mounted the exhibition, and those who manned the teashop!

Dolls with Attitude............Kathryn Thompson

October meeting

Our October meeting was titled 'Dolls with Attitude,'  and Kathryn Thompson brought along  her wonderful creations to explain how they were made.

Sadly, I wasn't at the meeting, though I had planned to be there. I was assured that I'd missed a really fascinating talk.

Janet sent me pictures, so, until I manage to get someone to write a report, they will have to speak for themselves...

Fabulous!  I hope I get to see them for real, sometime!

October Informal

Our Informal meetings are a chance to meet in the lovely village of Threlkeld, and stitch in a relaxed atmosphere, catching up on our own projects. Literally, the view from Pat's gate.

How could we fail to be inspired......................

One of the Chinese bags from Sally's workshop, finished!

Crewel work....soft shading

A few of the squares from the Linus quilt, started at Temple Sowerby, and to be continued at the Threlkeld Exhibition this weekend.
