Exhibition of work

 

 

At last..... pictures of our recent exhibition at Keswick's Moot Hall. It poured with rain all day; whether or not this affected the number of visitors we had is hard to say, but we were kept busy most of the time, and people seemed pleased with what they saw.

Lovely tile designs,  made on a Quilters' Guild day that several members attended, taught by Yvonne Brown. They used a reverse applique technique, cotton fabric, heat- reactive felt, a soldering iron and a heat gun!

Phew!  A good day!

 

 

We were pleasantly surprised by how many different techniques we'd worked on over two years. We had a lovely day, and can look forward to next year. We have our AGM on September  18th, followed by a Show and Tell session in the afternoon.

Exhibition

 

Our exhibition of work will take place at The Moot Hall, in the centre of Keswick, on the 4th July, from 10am to 4pm.

 

Entry is free, and refreshments will be available all day. members' work will be on show, and there will be a fabric tombola, a sales table, a sale of pre-owned embroidery books and magazines.

 

 

 

 

May Meeting Beading

Beaded Bookmark

 

 

 

Our May meeting was a workshop with  Gillian Forsyth, who took on the challenge of teaching us how to make a beaded bookmark. I think it's fair to say that our experience of beading was varied, and some of us found it harder to pick up than others! Fairly good eyesight, a steady hand and concentration seem to be the key to this, and there were many expressions of frustration as we mastered the first few steps. 

 

 

          Gillian brought with her examples of her lovely work to encourage us.

 

 

 

 

 

The scale and intricacy of these items is amazing.

And one finished bookmark, notably made by a visitor, who is a beader!

 

Ours are still in progress, and will be finished, hopefully, by the exhibition in July.

Little Owl........ April's workshop with Lizzie Wall

 

 

 

 

Little Owl Workshop

 

 

 

This month, we enjoyed Lizzie Wall's workshop, where we made a wall-hanging of a 'Little Owl' . Lizzie showed us examples of her own work; the owls were inspired by a request to make a window display for a forthcoming Harry Potter book release a few years ago.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Lizzie assured us that, though we were all working from the same basic pattern,

 

 

 

 

 

 by the time we had made two decisions, all our work would be quite different........

 

 

 

and so they were........

 

 

We had a really busy and enjoyable day. Our Little owls are 'works in progress'. They need to be quilted, and bound. So, watch this space!

April Informal

 

 Getting together informally  in between our programme meetings gives us the chance to catch up on our projects, and also everyone's news. This month, as usual, we met at Pat's house in Threlkeld.

 

Various 'UFO' s made an appearance, and a couple of finished pieces, too.

Several of us recently enjoyed a Quilters' Guild workshop, led by Yvonne Brown.

We were delighted by the results, and learned a lot making the designs, using a soldering iron and a heat gun as well as more conventional patchwork and quilting. Here are two of the 'tiles'.

(Just in case you were wondering....it is the camera angle which makes these look a bit lop-sided; all the points are actually right, and the tiles are square!)

Instead of our shared lunch, we went along to Threlkeld Village Hall, just up the road, to test out the newly refurbished coffee shop, and to look at the wall-hanging that villagers including Pat have made. if you are in the area, it's a good place to stop for lunch, for the stunning views, and to look at the lovely wallhanging.

 

 

Tomorrow, 17th is our April meeting, when we will welcome Elizabeth Wall, textile artist, who is leading us in a workshop. More of this in due course.

 

 

 



Dandy Birds..... January workshop

Dandy Birds

 

In January, member Gloria Walker led a workshop , making 'Dandy Birds'. We had seen them in an edition of STITCH magazine, and Gloria had already made some. So,  armed with our copies of the magazine, we got to work. We've all used the ideas in STITCH of course, individually, but this was the first time we'd based our meeting around one of them.

 

 

It was useful to have someone who'd already experimented with the design, and we soon had the little flock of birds nearly finished.
